New English Translation (NET)
Version
Leviticus 7:28-9:6

Priestly Portions of Peace Offerings

28 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:[a] 29 “Tell the Israelites, ‘The one who presents his peace-offering sacrifice to the Lord must bring part of his offering to the Lord as his sacrifice. 30 With his own hands he must bring the Lord’s gifts. He must bring the fat with the breast[b] to wave the breast as a wave offering before the Lord,[c] 31 and the priest must offer the fat up in smoke on the altar, but the breast will belong to Aaron and his sons. 32 The right thigh you must give as a contribution offering[d] to the priest from your peace-offering sacrifice. 33 The one from Aaron’s sons who presents the blood of the peace offering and fat will have the right thigh as his share, 34 for the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution offering I have taken from the Israelites out of their peace-offering sacrifices and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons from the people of Israel as a perpetual allotted portion.’”[e]

35 This is the allotment of Aaron and the allotment of his sons from the Lord’s gifts on the day Moses[f] presented them to serve as priests[g] to the Lord. 36 This is what the Lord commanded to give to them from the Israelites on the day Moses[h] anointed them[i]—a perpetual allotted portion throughout their generations.[j]

Summary of Sacrificial Regulations in Leviticus 6:8-7:36

37 This is the law[k] for the burnt offering, the grain offering,[l] the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering,[m] and the peace-offering sacrifice, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai on the day he commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord in the desert of Sinai.

Ordination of the Priests

Then the Lord spoke to Moses:[n] “Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, the anointing oil, the sin offering bull, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread, and assemble the whole congregation at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.”[o] So Moses did just as the Lord commanded him, and the congregation assembled at the entrance of the Meeting Tent. Then Moses said to the congregation: “This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.”

Clothing Aaron

So Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them with water. Then he[p] put the tunic[q] on Aaron,[r] wrapped the sash around him,[s] and clothed him with the robe.[t] Next he put the ephod on him[u] and placed on him[v] the decorated band of the ephod, and fastened the ephod closely to him with the band.[w] He then set the breastpiece[x] on him and put the Urim and Thummim[y] into the breastpiece. Finally, he set the turban[z] on his head and attached the gold plate, the holy diadem,[aa] to the front of the turban just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Anointing the Tabernacle and Aaron, and Clothing Aaron’s Sons

10 Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it, and so consecrated them.[ab] 11 Next he sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and so anointed the altar, all its vessels, and the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them. 12 He then poured some of the anointing oil on the head of Aaron and anointed him to consecrate him. 13 Moses also brought forward Aaron’s sons, clothed them with tunics, wrapped sashes around them,[ac] and wrapped headbands on them[ad] just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Consecration Offerings

14 Then he brought near the sin offering bull[ae] and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the sin offering bull, 15 and he slaughtered it.[af] Moses then took the blood and put it all around on the horns of the altar with his finger and purified the altar,[ag] and he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and so consecrated it to make atonement on it.[ah] 16 Then he[ai] took all the fat on the entrails, the protruding lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat,[aj] and Moses offered it all up in smoke on the altar,[ak] 17 but the rest of the bull—its hide, its flesh, and its dung—he completely burned up[al] outside the camp just as the Lord had commanded Moses.[am]

18 Then he presented the burnt offering ram and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, 19 and he slaughtered it.[an] Moses then splashed the blood against the altar’s sides. 20 Then he[ao] cut the ram into parts,[ap] and Moses offered the head, the parts, and the suet up in smoke, 21 but the entrails and the legs he washed with water,[aq] and Moses offered the whole ram up in smoke on the altar—it was a burnt offering for a soothing aroma, a gift to the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.[ar]

22 Then he presented the second ram, the ram of ordination,[as] and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram 23 and he slaughtered it.[at] Moses then took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe,[au] on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe[av] of his right foot. 24 Next he brought Aaron’s sons forward, and Moses put some of the blood on their right earlobes, on their right thumbs, and on the big toes of their right feet, and Moses splashed the rest of the blood against the altar’s sides.

25 Then he took the fat (the fatty tail,[aw] all the fat on the entrails, the protruding lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat[ax]) and the right thigh,[ay] 26 and from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord he took one unleavened loaf, one loaf of bread mixed with olive oil, and one wafer,[az] and placed them on the fat parts and on the right thigh. 27 He then put all of them on the palms[ba] of Aaron and his sons, who waved[bb] them as a wave offering before the Lord.[bc] 28 Moses then took them from their palms and offered them up in smoke on the altar[bd] on top of the burnt offering—they were an ordination offering for a soothing aroma; it was a gift to the Lord. 29 Finally, Moses took the breast and waved it as a wave offering before the Lord from the ram of ordination. It was Moses’ share just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Anointing Aaron, his Sons, and their Garments

30 Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and his sons’ garments. So he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons and his sons’ garments. 31 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance of the Meeting Tent, and there you are to eat it and the bread which is in the ordination offering basket, just as I have commanded,[be] saying, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it,’ 32 but the remainder of the meat and the bread[bf] you must burn with fire. 33 And you must not go out from the entrance of the Meeting Tent for seven days, until the day when your days of ordination are completed, because you must be ordained over a seven-day period.[bg] 34 What has been done[bh] on this day the Lord has commanded to be done[bi] to make atonement for you. 35 You must reside at the entrance of the Meeting Tent day and night for seven days and keep the charge of the Lord so that you will not die, for this is what I have been commanded.” 36 So Aaron and his sons did all the things the Lord had commanded through[bj] Moses.

Inauguration of Tabernacle Worship

On the eighth day[bk] Moses summoned[bl] Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel, and said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a bull calf for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both flawless, and present them before the Lord. Then tell the Israelites: ‘Take a male goat[bm] for a sin offering and a calf and a lamb, both a year old and flawless,[bn] for a burnt offering, and an ox and a ram for peace offerings to sacrifice before the Lord, and a grain offering mixed with olive oil, for today the Lord is going to appear[bo] to you.’” So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of[bp] the Meeting Tent and the whole congregation presented them and stood before the Lord. Then Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded you to do[bq] so that the glory of the Lord may appear[br] to you.”

Mark 3:31-4:25

Jesus’ True Family

31 Then[a] Jesus’[b] mother and his brothers[c] came. Standing[d] outside, they sent word to him, to summon him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him and they said to him, “Look, your mother and your brothers[e] are outside looking for you.” 33 He answered them and said, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”[f] 34 And looking at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, “Here[g] are my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God is[h] my brother and sister and mother.”

The Parable of the Sower

Again he began to teach by the lake. Such a large crowd gathered around him that he got into a boat[i] on the lake and sat there while[j] the whole crowd was on the shore by the lake. He taught them many things in parables,[k] and in his teaching said to them: “Listen! A sower went out to sow.[l] And as he sowed, some seed[m] fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground[n] where it did not have much soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep.[o] When the sun came up it was scorched, and because it did not have sufficient root,[p] it withered. Other seed fell among the thorns,[q] and they grew up and choked it,[r] and it did not produce grain. But[s] other seed fell on good soil and produced grain, sprouting and growing; some yielded thirty times as much, some sixty, and some a hundred times.” And he said, “Whoever has ears to hear had better listen!”[t]

The Purpose of Parables

10 When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 He said to them, “The secret[u] of the kingdom of God[v] has been given[w] to you. But to those outside, everything is in parables,

12 so that although they look they may look but not see,
and although they hear they may hear but not understand,
so they may not repent and be forgiven.”[x]

13 He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? Then[y] how will you understand any parable? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 These are the ones on the path where the word is sown: Whenever they hear, immediately Satan[z] comes and snatches the word[aa] that was sown in them. 16 These are the ones sown on rocky ground: As soon as they hear the word, they receive it with joy. 17 But[ab] they have no root in themselves and do not endure.[ac] Then, when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 Others are the ones sown among thorns: They are those who hear the word, 19 but[ad] worldly cares, the seductiveness of wealth,[ae] and the desire for other things come in and choke the word,[af] and it produces nothing. 20 But[ag] these are the ones sown on good soil: They hear the word and receive it and bear fruit, one thirty times as much, one sixty, and one a hundred.”

The Parable of the Lamp

21 He also said to them, “A lamp[ah] isn’t brought to be put under a basket[ai] or under a bed, is it? Isn’t it to be placed on a lampstand? 22 For nothing is hidden except to be revealed,[aj] and nothing concealed except to be brought to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, he had better listen!”[ak] 24 And he said to them, “Take care about what you hear. The measure you use will be the measure you receive,[al] and more will be added to you. 25 For whoever has will be given more, but[am] whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”[an]

Psalm 37:12-29

12 Evil men plot against the godly[a]
and viciously attack them.[b]
13 The Lord laughs in disgust[c] at them,
for he knows that their day is coming.[d]
14 Evil men draw their swords
and prepare their bows,
to bring down[e] the oppressed and needy,
and to slaughter those who are godly.[f]
15 Their swords will pierce[g] their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.
16 The little bit that a godly man owns is better than
the wealth of many evil men,[h]
17 for evil men will lose their power,[i]
but the Lord sustains[j] the godly.
18 The Lord watches over the innocent day by day,[k]
and they possess a permanent inheritance.[l]
19 They will not be ashamed when hard times come;[m]
when famine comes they will have enough to eat.[n]
20 But[o] evil men will die;
the Lord’s enemies will be incinerated[p]
they will go up in smoke.[q]
21 Evil men borrow, but do not repay their debt,
but the godly show compassion and are generous.[r]
22 Surely[s] those favored by the Lord[t] will possess the land,
but those rejected[u] by him will be wiped out.[v]
23 The Lord grants success to the one
whose behavior he finds commendable.[w]
24 Even if[x] he trips, he will not fall headlong,[y]
for the Lord holds[z] his hand.
25 I was once young, now I am old.
I have never seen the godly abandoned,
or their children[aa] forced to search for food.[ab]
26 All day long they show compassion and lend to others,[ac]
and their children[ad] are blessed.
27 Turn away from evil. Do what is right.[ae]
Then you will enjoy lasting security.[af]
28 For the Lord promotes[ag] justice,
and never abandons[ah] his faithful followers.
They are permanently secure,[ai]
but the children[aj] of the wicked are wiped out.[ak]
29 The godly will possess the land
and will dwell in it permanently.

Proverbs 10:5

The one who gathers crops[a] in the summer is a wise[b] son,
but the one who sleeps[c] during harvest is a shameful son.[d]
