Cornilescu 1924 (RMNN)
Revd Dumitru Cornilescu was an Orthodox archdeacon who became interested in Bible translation. He was in contact with the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) from 1914. From 1919 he worked on a new translation of the Bible into colloquial Romanian. Cornilescu left Romania and lived in London 1923-24 where he worked with the BFBS on completing the Bible translation according to BFBS guidelines. The Bible was published with references in 1924. Cornilescu gave his text to the BFBS, and the text was adopted as the official BFBS Bible text for Romania. In 1971, on his 80th birthday, Dumitru Cornilescu was made an honorary Vice President of the British & Foreign Bible Society. Cornilescu died in exile in 1975 in Switzerland. The Cornilescu translation is the most widely used translation of the Bible into Romanian amongst Romanian speaking Protestants. The latest 90th anniversary edition of the Cornilescu Bible, brought out by the Interconfessional Bible Society of Romania in 2014, incorporates many corrections to errors in the text and in the references.
