Modern English Version (MEV)
Version
Jeremiah 44:24-47:7

24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt. 25 Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hand, saying, ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’

“Proceed to accomplish your vows and surely perform your vows! 26 Yet hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who dwells in the land of Egypt: I have sworn by My great name, says the Lord, that My name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’ 27 I will watch over them for disaster and not for good. And all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine until there is an end of them. 28 Yet a small number who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there will know whose words will stand, Mine or theirs.

29 “This will be a sign to you, says the Lord, that I will punish you in this place so that you may know that My words shall surely stand against you for disaster. 30 Thus says the Lord: I will give Pharaoh Hophra the king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy, and sought his life.”

A Message to Baruch

45 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: You said, “Alas, woe is me! For the Lord has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.” Thus you shall say to him, “Thus says the Lord: That which I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land. But are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster upon all flesh, says the Lord, but I will give your life to you as booty in all the places where you go.”

Judgment on Egypt

46 The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the nations:

Concerning Egypt, about the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

Order the buckler and shield,
    and draw near to battle!
Harness the horses;
    mount the steeds!
Take your positions
    with your helmets,
polish the spears,
    put on the armor!
Why have I seen them
    dismayed and drawing back?
Their mighty ones are beaten down
    and have taken refuge in flight,
and not looking back.
    Terror is on every side!
    says the Lord.
Let not the swift flee away,
    nor the mighty man escape;
they will stumble and fall
    towards the north by the River Euphrates.

Who is this that comes up as the Nile,
    whose waters surge about as the rivers?
Egypt rises up like the Nile,
    and his waters surge about like the rivers.
And he has said, I will go up and will cover the land.
    I will surely destroy the city and its inhabitants.
Come up, O horses,
    and rage, O chariots!
And let the mighty men come forth:
    the Ethiopians and the Libyans who handle the shield,
    and the Lydians who handle and bend the bow.
10 For this is the day of the Lord God of Hosts,
    a day of vengeance, so that He may avenge Himself of His adversaries.
And the sword will devour;
    and it will be satiated and made drunk with their blood;
for the Lord God of Hosts has a slaughter
    in the north country by the River Euphrates.

11 Go up into Gilead and take balm,
    O virgin daughter of Egypt;
in vain you shall use many medicines,
    for you will not be cured.
12 The nations have heard of your shame,
    and your cry has filled the land;
for the mighty man has stumbled over the mighty,
    and they both have fallen together.

Defeat of Egypt Foretold

13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, about Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon coming to strike the land of Egypt.

14 Declare in Egypt and publish in Migdol,
    and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes;
say, “Stand fast and prepare yourself,
    for the sword will devour those about you.”
15 Why have your valiant men become prostrate?
    They do not stand because the Lord has thrust them down.
16 He made many to fall.
    Indeed, each one has fallen upon another.
Then they said, “Arise and let us go back
    to our own people and to the land of our nativity,
    away from the oppressing sword.”
17 They cried there,
    “Pharaoh king of Egypt is a tumult.
    He has let the time appointed pass by!”

18 As I live, says the King
    whose name is the Lord of Hosts,
surely as Tabor is among the mountains,
    and as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.
19 O daughter dwelling in Egypt,
    prepare your baggage for captivity,
for Memphis will become desolate,
    it will even be burned down without an inhabitant.

20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer,
    but destruction comes,
    it comes out of the north.
21 Also her mercenaries are in her midst
    like fat bulls,
for they also have turned back and have fled away together.
    They did not stand their ground
because the day of their calamity has come upon them,
    even the time of their punishment.
22 Its sound goes along like a serpent,
    for they march on as an army,
and come against her with axes,
    as choppers of wood.
23 They have cut down her forest,
    says the Lord.
    Surely it will not be found any more,
even though they are now more numerous than the grasshoppers,
    and are innumerable.
24 The daughter of Egypt has been humiliated;
    she has been delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25 The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: See, I will punish Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods and their kings, even Pharaoh and all those who trust in him. 26 And I shall deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his servants. But afterwards it will be inhabited, as in the days of old, says the Lord.

God Will Save Israel

27 But do not fear, O My servant Jacob,
    and do not be dismayed, O Israel.
For I will save you from afar off,
    and your seed from the land of their captivity;
and Jacob shall return and be in rest and at ease,
    and no one shall make him afraid.
28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,
    says the Lord, for I am with you;
for I will make a full end of all the nations
    where I have driven you.
    However, I will not make a full end of you,
but correct you in measure,
    and I will not leave you wholly unpunished.

Judgment on the Philistines

47 The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh conquered Gaza.

Thus says the Lord:

See, waters rise up out of the north
    and will be an overflowing flood,
and will overflow the land, and all that is in it,
    the city and those who dwell in it.
Then the men shall cry out
    and all the inhabitants of the land will howl
at the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses,
    at the rushing of his chariots,
    and at the rumbling of his wheels.
The fathers will not look back to their children
    because of the feebleness of their hands,
because of the day that comes
    to destroy all the Philistines
and to cut off from Tyre and Sidon
    every helper that remains.
For the Lord will destroy the Philistines,
    the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
Baldness has come upon Gaza;
    Ashkelon has been cut off.
O remnant of their valley,
    how long shall you gash yourself?

O sword of the Lord,
    how long shall you not be quiet?
Withdraw into your sheath,
    rest, and be still.
How can it be quiet,
    seeing the Lord has given it a charge
against Ashkelon and against the sea shore?
    There He has appointed it.

2 Timothy 2:22-3:17

22 So flee youthful desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and unlearned debates, knowing that they create strife. 24 The servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be gentle toward all people, able to teach, patient, 25 in gentleness instructing those in opposition. Perhaps God will grant them repentance to know the truth, 26 and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

The Last Days

Know this: In the last days perilous times will come. Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, slanderers, unrestrained, fierce, despisers of those who are good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying its power. Turn away from such people.

Those of this nature creep into houses and captivate silly women who are burdened with sins and led away with various desires, always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men of corrupt minds and worthless concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further, for their folly will be revealed to everyone, as theirs also was.

Last Charge to Timothy

10 But you have observed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, tolerance, love, patience, 11 persecutions, and afflictions, which came to me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra—what persecutions I endured! But the Lord delivered me out of them all. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But continue in the things that you have learned and have been assured of, knowing those from whom you have learned them, 15 and that since childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Psalm 94

Psalm 94

O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs;
    O God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth.
Rise up, O Judge of the earth;
    render to the proud what they deserve.
O Lord, how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall the wicked triumph?

They spew forth their arrogant words;
    all those who do iniquity boast.
They break in pieces Your people, O Lord,
    and afflict Your inheritance.
They kill the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder the fatherless.
Yet they say, “The Lord does not see,
    neither does the God of Jacob regard it.”

Understand, you brutish among the people;
    fools, when will you be wise?
He who made the ear, shall He not hear?
    He who formed the eye, shall He not see?
10 He who chastises the nations, shall He not correct?
    He teaches people knowledge!
11 The Lord, He knows the thoughts of people,
    that they are a breath.

12 Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O Lord,
    and teach from Your law,
13 that You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
    until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not forsake His people;
    neither will He abandon His inheritance.
15 But justice shall return to those who are righteous,
    and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked?
    Who will stand up for me against those who do iniquity?
17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
    my soul would have lived in the land of silent death.
18 When I said, “My foot slips,”
    Your mercy, O Lord, held me up.
19 When there is a multitude of worries within me,
    Your comforts delight my soul.

20 Shall wicked rulers, who make oppressive laws,
    align with You?
21 They conspire together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn innocent blood to death.
22 But the Lord is my defense,
    and my God is the rock of my refuge.
23 He shall bring upon them their own iniquity
    and shall cut them off for their own wickedness;
    yes, the Lord our God shall destroy them.

Proverbs 26:6-8

He who sends a message by the hand of a fool
    cuts off the feet and drinks violence.
The legs of the lame are not equal;
    so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
As he who binds a stone in a sling,
    so is he who gives honor to a fool.
