Exodus 30:11-31:18

The Census Tax

11 The Lord said to Moses, 12 (A)“When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give (B)a ransom for his life to the Lord when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them. 13 Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel[a] according to the (C)shekel of the sanctuary (the (D)shekel is twenty gerahs),[b] (E)half a shekel as an offering to the Lord. 14 Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord's offering. 15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than (F)the half shekel, when you give the Lord's offering to make atonement for your lives. 16 You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall (G)give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to (H)remembrance before the Lord, so as to make atonement for your lives.”

The Bronze Basin

17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “You shall also make a (I)basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. (J)You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, 19 with which Aaron and his sons (K)shall wash their hands and their feet. 20 When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering[c] to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. 21 They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall (L)be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

The Anointing Oil and Incense

22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 “Take the (M)finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of (N)aromatic cane, 24 and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a (O)hin[d] of olive oil. 25 And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the (P)perfumer; it shall be a (Q)holy anointing oil. 26 (R)With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, 27 and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, 28 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils and the (S)basin and its stand. 29 You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. (T)Whatever touches them will become holy. 30 (U)You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. 31 And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations. 32 It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. (V)It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. 33 (W)Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”

34 The Lord said to Moses, (X)“Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (of each shall there be an equal part), 35 and make an (Y)incense blended as by the (Z)perfumer, (AA)seasoned with salt, pure and holy. 36 You shall beat some of it very small, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting (AB)where I shall meet with you. (AC)It shall be most holy for you. 37 And the incense that you shall make (AD)according to its composition, you shall not make for yourselves. It shall be for you holy to the Lord. 38 (AE)Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his people.”

Oholiab and Bezalel

31 The Lord said to Moses, “See, I have called by name (AF)Bezalel the son of Uri, son of (AG)Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have (AH)filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. And behold, I have appointed with him (AI)Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men (AJ)ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you: (AK)the tent of meeting, and (AL)the ark of the testimony, and (AM)the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, (AN)the table and its utensils, and (AO)the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and (AP)the altar of incense, and (AQ)the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and (AR)the basin and its stand, 10 and (AS)the finely worked garments,[e] the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, for their service as priests, 11 and (AT)the anointing oil and the fragrant (AU)incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.”

The Sabbath

12 And the Lord said to Moses, 13 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. 14 You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. (AV)Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15 (AW)Six days shall work be done, but (AX)the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. (AY)Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. 16 Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. 17 (AZ)It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that (BA)in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and (BB)on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

18 And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the (BC)two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with (BD)the finger of God.

Matthew 26:47-68

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

47 (A)While he was still speaking, (B)Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” 49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, (C)Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, (D)“Friend, (E)do what you came to do.”[a] Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. 51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his (F)sword and struck the servant[b] of the high priest and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For (G)all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 (H)Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me (I)more than twelve (J)legions of angels? 54 (K)But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day (L)I sat in the temple (M)teaching, and you did not seize me. 56 But (N)all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” (O)Then all the disciples left him and fled.

Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council

57 (P)Then (Q)those who had seized Jesus led him to (R)Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 And (S)Peter was following him at a distance, as far as (T)the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with (U)the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council[c] (V)were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, (W)though many false witnesses came forward. At last (X)two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, (Y)‘I am able to (Z)destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” 62 And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[d] 63 (AA)But Jesus remained silent. (AB)And the high priest said to him, (AC)“I adjure you by (AD)the living God, (AE)tell us if you are (AF)the Christ, (AG)the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, (AH)“You have said so. But I tell you, from now on (AI)you will see the Son of Man (AJ)seated at the right hand of Power and (AK)coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest (AL)tore his robes and said, (AM)“He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, (AN)“He deserves death.” 67 Then (AO)they spit in his face (AP)and (AQ)struck him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you (AR)Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

Psalm 32

Blessed Are the Forgiven

A Maskil[a] of David.

32 (A)Blessed is the one whose (B)transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord (C)counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit (D)there is no deceit.

For when I kept silent, my (E)bones wasted away
    through my (F)groaning all day long.
For day and night your (G)hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried up[b] as by the heat of summer. Selah

I (H)acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I (I)will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Therefore let everyone who is (J)godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you (K)may be found;
surely in the rush of (L)great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a (M)hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from (N)trouble;
    you surround me with (O)shouts of deliverance. Selah

I will (P)instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will (Q)counsel you with my eye upon you.
(R)Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    which must be curbed with (S)bit and bridle,
    or it will not stay near you.

10 (T)Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds the one who (U)trusts in the Lord.
11 (V)Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
    and (W)shout for joy, all you (X)upright in heart!

Proverbs 8:27-32

27 When he (A)established the heavens, I was there;
    when he drew (B)a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he (C)made firm the skies above,
    when he established[a] the fountains of the deep,
29 when he (D)assigned to the sea its (E)limit,
    so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out (F)the foundations of the earth,
30     then (G)I was beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his[b] (H)delight,
    rejoicing before him always,
31 (I)rejoicing in his (J)inhabited world
    and delighting in the children of man.

32 “And now, (K)O sons, listen to me:
    (L)blessed are those who keep my ways.
