An Inner Glow
It was dusk. Anita and Juan were out in their backyard, trying to catch fireflies. But every time one lit up, it would stop glowing by the time they reached it. “Man, this is impossible!” Juan said.
Sitting on the patio, their parents chuckled. “Take a break, niños,” their mom said. “Have some lemonade.” The kids plopped down on the patio swing, and she poured them drinks.
The fireflies kept flickering in the twilight. “What makes them glow?” Anita asked.
Her dad replied, “A chemical reaction in their abdomens. It helps them find each other.”
Just then Juan’s stomach growled loudly. Grinning, he said, “Something’s happening in my abdomen too. I’m getting hungry!”
Fireflies shine because of chemicals in their bodies. Moses shone because he spent time with God. Every time Moses met with God, his face would glow. In fact, it shone so brightly that he had to cover it with a veil. (See Exodus 34:29-35) God wants you to shine in a similar way. He wants you to spend time with him in prayer so he can change you on the inside, making you more and more like him. Then people will sense something special about you. It’ll be as if they could actually see God’s glory in you!
Bible Verse: [Moses’s] face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. – Exodus 34:29
Words to Treasure: God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts. – 2 Corinthians 4:6
