the mountain of myrrh . . . the hill of frankincense. Frankincense, like myrrh, was an imported aromatic spice (cf. Matt. 2:11). Despite the exotic language, the reference is probably to the local hill country, fragrant with spring blossoms (cf. 1:13–17).
