8:5–22 This ceremony, which set apart the Levites for service to the Lord, differs significantly from the consecration ceremony of the priests (Ex. 29:1–37; Lev. 8). Key terms in the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests are “hallow” and “consecrate” (Ex. 29:1, 9 and notes); the Levites were “cleansed” (vv. 6, 15, 21). The priests received new garments; the Levites shaved the hair on their bodies and washed their clothes (Ex. 29:5–9).
