34:16–29 The Lord designates men to assign the portions of the land of Canaan: Eleazar the priest (Num. 20:25–26) and Joshua the commander (Num. 27:18–23) were to be in charge, together with a leader from each of the ten tribes that had not yet been given their inheritance. None of these ten names are included in earlier lists of leaders (Num. 1:5–15; 2:3–29; 7:12–78), nor is any one of them the son of a man included in those lists.
