21:14 the Book of the Wars of the Lord. This is the only biblical reference to an uninspired book of victory songs that was apparently current in the land of Israel at the time of David or before. A similar work, the Book of Jashar, is quoted in Josh. 10:12, 13 and 2 Sam. 1:19–27.

Arnon. This perennial stream flowed into the Dead Sea from the east, through a deep ravine. It formed the border between the territory of Moab and the Amorite kingdom of Sihon (21:21–31).
