18:1 bear iniquity. Aaron and his sons were responsible for offenses against the holiness of the sanctuary and for violations of the rules of the priesthood. The imperfection of their priesthood was indicated by their having to make sacrifices for their own sins, as well as for the sins of others (Ex. 29:38; Heb. 9:7). This imperfection pointed forward to a greater, perfect Priest who did not need to offer sacrifices for His own sin (Heb. 10:11–14).
