13:22 Hebron. Hebron was well-known as the location of the graves of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Gen. 13:18; 49:29–33; 50:13). Zoan which was built seven years after Hebron is the city of Tanis in Egypt, founded about 1430 b.c. Another name for Hebron is Kiriath-arba, and it was associated with the Anakim or descendents of Anak, a clan of large and intimidating fighters (Josh. 14:15). In later history, David occupied Hebron and was anointed there, first as king of Judah and then as king of Israel and Judah (2 Sam. 2:1–3; 5:1–5).
