The people of God had not arrived at a resting place. Ezra and Nehemiah show the devotion of the faithful to the temple of God and the community surrounding it, a devotion that comes to maturity in Christ and the church (1 Cor. 3:5–17; Eph. 2:21, 22; 4:16; Heb. 3:1–6).
