8:4 say nothing to anyone. The command to the leper to be silent was to prevent miracle seekers from hindering Jesus’ main mission (Mark 1:45). By showing himself to the priest, the leper would fulfill the requirements of the Law and be able to rejoin Jewish society (Lev. 14:1–32).
