9:2 after six days. In Ex. 24:16, “six days” is also the period of preparation for receiving revelation and witnessing a vision of divine glory (a theophany; 6:50 note).

Peter and James and John. These three can represent the Twelve just as Peter alone can (8:29; Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:14).

a high mountain. Both Moses (on Sinai; Ex. 24) and Elijah (on Horeb; 1 Kin. 19) were given a vision of God’s theophanic presence on high mountains.

transfigured. Lit. “changed in form.” This Greek verb is used by Paul to describe the present work of the Spirit in the inner life of the believer (Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18). That work will be completed when this same Spirit gives “life to your mortal bodies” as when He raised Jesus from the dead (Rom. 8:11), and as here in Jesus’ momentary glorification.
