10:6 from the beginning. As usual, Jesus does not argue from “tradition” (7:3–12 notes) but seeks the intention of Scripture and its real requirements (see Matt. 5:20–22, 27, 28, 31, 32). Regarding marriage, Jesus shows that in the time of the new covenant, despite the continuing presence of sin, the conditions of life prior to the Fall will again be realized in an appropriate way (see Eph. 5:22–33).
