1:35 desolate place. Lit. “deserted place,” the place where Jesus fights His spiritual battle (v. 12; cf. v. 3), and which is also, as with ancient Israel, a type of the present Christian walk (1 Cor. 10:1–11; Heb. 13:12, 13).
