22:55–62 All four Gospels say that the first challenge came from a servant girl, but the second variously from the same girl (Mark 14:69), a different girl (Matt. 26:71), or a man (Luke 22:58). Servants were around a fire in a courtyard; a challenge from any of them would be taken up by the others and there would have been several voices challenging Peter. The threefold denial fulfills the prediction of v. 34.
