Luke 20:41

20:41 How can they say. Earlier generations were regarded as greater and wiser than the present one, and this opened the way for Jesus to pose a question of His own. By popular definition, David was more important than any of his descendants. How could David call the Messiah his “Lord” (Ps. 110:1)? Jesus is teaching that the Messiah is not simply the Son of David; He is the Son of God and so David’s Lord. Jesus’ messiahship may be understood in part from His title “Son of David,” but there are other aspects as well. He could not be regarded simply as “David” all over again.
