Job 4:2–6

4:2–6 Eliphaz is the least caustic of Job’s three friends, at least in his first speech. These opening words, which assume Job is innocent (v. 7), should be compared with 22:1–11, where he is fully convinced Job is getting what he deserves. Job is complimented for being a wisdom teacher (vv. 3, 4), but in v. 5 he is warned lest he fail to apply to himself what he has taught others.
