34:1–36:32 These chapters narrate scenes of rejection of the word of the Lord that led to final judgment on Judah. King Zedekiah is condemned for going back on his promise to free slaves (ch. 34), and the people of Judah are reproved for failing to learn a lesson from the example of the faithful Rechabites (ch. 35). King Jehoiakim rejects Jeremiah’s message and burns the prophet’s scroll (ch. 36).
