21:1 Zedekiah. The name means “the Lord is my righteousness.”

sent to him. Zedekiah maintains a vacillating dependence on Jeremiah without the moral courage to obey his warnings (37:3, 21; 38:5, 14, 19, 24–26).

Pashhur. Not necessarily the same Pashhur as in 20:1 (see note) or 38:1.

Zephaniah. A priest and the son of Maaseiah (29:25, 29; 37:3; 52:24), not the same as the prophet Zephaniah (Zeph. 1:1).
