9:21–24 The sanctuary, the meeting place of the holy God with sinful people, must itself be purified through sacrificial blood, the only means of forgiveness. This is true not only of the earthly tent of the old covenant (vv. 21, 22) but also of the heavenly reality (vv. 23, 24), which was purified by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross (v. 23 note).
