5:1–3 The godly line of Seth, in contrast with that of Cain (4:17–24), is begun by linking it with the original creation: vv. 1–2 summarize 1:1–2:3, especially 1:27, 28. Verse 3b echoes both 1:27, 28 and 4:25 (11:10–26). God’s intention for creation will be realized through Seth, not Cain.
