Gen 49:7

49:7 divide . . . scatter. Sharing an inclination toward destructive anger and cruelty, Simeon and Levi posed a threat to peace (34:25–31). After the Exodus from Egypt, the tribe of Simeon declined in importance and was not mentioned in Moses’ blessing (Deut. 33). Simeon received no separate inheritance in the Promised Land, but was allotted cities within the inheritance of Judah (Josh. 19:1–9). Similarly, the priestly tribe of Levi was allotted cities throughout the land (Josh. 21:1–42).
