bless. The Hebrew root for “bless” is used six times in this verse. These blessings were fertility of land fed by water from heaven above and earth below (1:6–8 and note) and fertility of body (1:22; cf. Num. 24:5–7). Blessings given mankind at creation were concentrated on Joseph.
