22:1 tested. God tests His saints to prove the quality of their faith and obedience, often through adversity or hardship (Ex. 20:20; Deut. 8:2; 2 Chr. 32:31). The Hebrew here does not mean “enticed to do wrong.” People, however, must not put God to the test (Ex. 17:2, 7; Deut. 6:16).

Here am I. So also Moses (Ex. 3:4), Samuel (1 Sam. 3:4), and Isaiah (Is. 6:8). See also Christ’s own words to the same effect (Heb. 10:7; cf. Ps. 40:7, 8).
