12:6 cover. Covering the face was a gesture of shame or grief (24:17, 22; Lev. 13:45; 2 Sam. 19:4; Esth. 6:12; 7:8; Ps. 44:15; 69:7). In this context it suggests that the exiles will never see Jerusalem again, and more particularly, that Zedekiah will lose his sight (vv. 12, 13; 2 Kin. 25:7).
