2:18–26 Solomon reflects on the frustrations associated with work. Death takes labor’s profit from its producer. The situation is made harder to bear by not knowing whether in the future the property will be dissipated by a fool (vv. 18, 19) or given to an heir who will not appreciate it (vv. 20, 21).
