Acts 4:6

4:6 The men listed in this verse constituted what might be called the executive committee of the council. Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was the official high priest (John 18:13), is here called the high priest. He was the power behind the office and probably still regarded as high priest by many Jews since the office was held for life. The Romans had deposed Annas in a.d. 15. John is possibly Jonathan, son of Annas who was appointed high priest in a.d. 36, or Jonathan ben Zaccai, who became president of the Great Synagogue after the fall of Jerusalem. Nothing is known of Alexander.
