2:18 the resurrection has already happened. This Gnostic belief denied the future bodily resurrection of Christians and affirmed instead a spiritual resurrection at conversion; it resulted in an overemphasis on present experience (1 Cor. 15:12–14).
They are upsetting the faith of some. The doctrines of the false teachers are incompatible with the gospel. Timothy must warn the church against them (v. 14).
