9:4 Machir the son of Ammiel. Mentioned also in 17:27–29, Machir appears to have been a wealthy man in a good position to host a descendant of Israel’s first king.
Lo-debar. This city has been tentatively located in Gilead about four miles northwest of Mahanaim, Ish-bosheth’s short-lived capital east of the Jordan River (2:8 note).
