13:12–14 Tamar’s desperate appeal to Amnon points first to the distinctive moral standards of Israel (“such a thing is not done in Israel,” v. 12), then to the claims of human decency (“my shame”), then to Amnon’s self-interest (“you would be as one of the outrageous fools”), and finally to marriage as a better means of fulfilling Amnon’s desire (v. 13). But he does not listen (v. 14).
