4:17 momentary affliction. An understatement. See the descriptions of these troubles in 4:8–12; 6:4–10; 11:23–33. These troubles are preparing a great reward for believers. Our faith and obedience in suffering pleases God, and He will not forget (Rom. 8:17, 18; 1 Pet. 1:6, 7).

eternal weight of glory. Troubles in this life are light and insignificant compared to the important and significant glory that we will enjoy for eternity.
