1 Thess 5:9

5:9 God has not destined us for wrath. God has appointed His people to obtain salvation and glory in Jesus Christ (1:10; 2 Thess. 2:14). Yet the Thessalonians and many other Christians have been appointed by God to undergo and withstand tribulation of every kind (3:2–4; 2 Thess. 1:4; James 1:2–4; 1 Pet. 4:12–14; Rev. 1:9). The “wrath” in this context is evidently the condemnation and punishment that will fall in “the day of wrath” (Rom. 2:5) upon the impenitent (Eph. 5:6; Col. 3:6; Rev. 6:16, 17; 11:18).
