things . . . announced. The sufferings and glories of Christ (v. 11) are the content of the gospel (Luke 24:25–27, 45–47). The events predicted by the prophets are the events fulfilled in Christ and told to the church by the gospel messengers.

Holy Spirit sent from heaven. The origin of the gospel message is God. The same Spirit who inspired the prophets directed the gospel messengers. The Old and New Testaments are a unity centering on Christ and His salvation.

angels long to look. Celestial beings are intensely interested in redemption, but their knowledge and experience of it are limited. God’s plan is made known to them through the church (Eph. 3:10).
