1 Kings 6:2

6:2 the house . . . for the Lord. There are a number of similarities between the tabernacle and the temple, although the temple was twice the size of the tabernacle (Ex. 26:15–30; 36:20–34). Both were divided into three main sections: a vestibule, a sanctuary (the Holy Place), and an inner sanctuary (the Most Holy Place). This three-part structure was common in other ancient Near Eastern temples. Israel’s sanctuary differed radically from a pagan sanctuary because it had no idols. At its center was the ark of the covenant containing the Ten Commandments, the moral will of God that ordered Israel’s life (Deut. 10:4, 5; 1 Kin. 8:6–9).
