Wimple

WIMPLE (מַ֣עֲטָפֹ֔ות, cloak). Mentioned only in Isaiah 3:22 (KJV) but rendered “veil” in Ruth 3:15; or, in ASV and RSV more accurately “mantle.” What the word signifies in the satiric passage in Isaiah is difficult to determine. Wimple in Old English meant a “hood” and in the Isaiahan context differentiated as it is from “mantles,” it may mean a hooded cloak.
