WATERPOT (ὑδρία, G5620). An earthen water container for carrying or holding water. Such jars varied in size, some being small enough for women to carry on the head or shoulder (John 4:28), while others held from eighteen to twenty gallons (John 2:6, 7). The Heb. word for such jars is כַּד, H3902, (Gen 24:14, 15, et al.; 1 Kings 18:33). RSV trs. variously jar, water jar. See Potter.
