UZZI uz’ ī (עֻזִּ֡י, my strength). 1. A priest in the line of Eleazar, the descendant of Aaron (1 Chron 6:5, 6). Some scholars think that he was a contemporary of Eli, the priest at Shiloh in the days of Samuel, the prophet.

2. The first-born of Tola, a descendant of Issachar. The genealogy of Tola and Uzzi is very large. The men of these families are referred to as “mighty warriors” (1 Chron 7:2).

3. The second-born son of Bela, a descendant of Benjamin (1 Chron 7:7). His family also were noted as warriors.

4. A Benjaminite family head (1 Chron 9:8). He may be identical with the Uzzi mentioned in 3 above.

5. A Levite, the son of Bani, a descendant of Asaph (Neh 11:22). He was the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem. He had the responsibility for the music in the Temple, and was paid by the royal treasury (Neh 11:23).

6. A priest, head of the family of Jedaiah (Neh 12:19). He served in the time of the postexilic high priest, Jehoiakim.

7. A Levite in a group that participated with Nehemiah on the walls of Jerusalem in a religious ceremony (Neh 12:42).

8. The father of Arna and an ancestor of Ezra in apocryphal lit. (2 Esd 1:2).
