SUR sŏŏr (ס֔וּר). A gate in the city of Jerusalem which prob. led from the palace to the environs of the Temple (2 Kings 11:6). A contingent was posted here as part of the maneuver which successfully dethroned Athaliah. The parallel passage (2 Chron 23:5) reads “Gate of the Foundation,” possibly a better reading.
