SKY, one Heb. and one Gr. term are rendered sky in the Eng. VSS. Heb. שַׁ֫חַק, H8836, “dust cloud.” By extension this word is commonly used in the meaning of “cloud” (Deut 33:26, et al.). The Gr. οὐρανός, G4041, commonly rendered “heaven” is read as “sky” in only five passages in the NT (Matt 16:2, 3; Luke 12:56; Heb 11:12; Rev 6:13, 14). However, the notion is clearly closer to “sky” from the context than to the term “heaven.”
