Shilonite

SHILONITE shī’ lə nīte (שִׁילֹנִ֨י; LXX Σηλωνεί, meaning an inhabitant of, or from, Shiloh). 1. Ahijah, a prophet from Shiloh (1 Kings 11:29; 2 Chron 9:29), who tore the garment of Jeroboam into twelve pieces, and prophesied that ten tribes would be given him.

2. A member of a Judean family returning from Babylonian exile (1 Chron 9:5; Neh 11:5). These were persons who traced their relationship and ancestry to Shiloh, and who in the return from exile, made their homes in Jerusalem. Because of differences in the group listings in these passages, some scholars feel that the name should be rendered “Shelah” (cf. Gen 38:5; Num 26:20).
