Shelomith

SHELOMITH shĭ lō’ mĭth (שְׁלﯴמִ֖ית, once only שְׁלֹמﯴת, H8977, [Ezra 8:10], at peace, complete, perfect). Sometimes confused with Shelomoth (see below) which is almost certainly the original male form of the name. 1. A woman of the tribe of Dan whose son (by an Egyp. father), following a quarrel with another Israelite, blasphemed the divine name and was subsequently stoned to death (Lev 24:11).

2. The daughter of Zerubbabel (1 Chron 3:19).

3. A Gershomite, one of the sons of Shimei (1 Chron 23:9 KJV). Called Shelomoth in ASV, RSV.

4. A Gershomite, the son of Izhar (1 Chron 23:18). The name appears as Shelomoth in 24:22.

5. The son of Zichri, a descendant of Moses who was in charge of all the spoils of war and other gifts dedicated to the maintenance of the sanctuary (1 Chron 26:25-28 KJV). Shelomoth appears in ASV, RSV.

6. A son or daughter of Maacah, the favorite wife of Rehoboam (2 Chron 11:20).

7. The son of Josiphiah (Ezra 8:10), of the family of Bani (so LXX, cf. 1 Esdras 8:36 KJV Assalimoth, RSV Salimoth, MT lacks Bani; see also Ezra 2:10). A family head who returned with Ezra from the Exile in Babylonia.
