SHELAH shē’ lə (שֶׁ֖לַח ). 1. A son of Arphaxad of Shem’s line, and father of Eber (Gen 10:24; 11:12-15), KJV SALAH sā’ le; 1 Chron 1:18, 24; Luke 3:35, KJV SALA.

2. The youngest of Judah’s sons, by Shua, a Canaanite, promised (according to law) but not given in marriage to Tamar his daughterin-law, widow of Er, the first-born of Judah (Gen 38:2-5, 14, 26; 46:12; 1 Chron 2:3; 4:21). The family of Shelanites (Num 26:20), perhaps the same as Shilonite of Nehemiah 11:5, was descended from him.

3. The name of a pool in Jerusalem, near the king’s garden, commonly called Siloam, the modern Silwan (Neh 3:15, KJV SHILOAH; Isa 8:6 KJV; RSV SHILOAH).
