SEACOAST. The RSV rendering of חֹ֣וף הַיָּ֑ם (Deut 1:7; Ezek 25:16), חֶ֣בֶל הַיָּ֗ם (Zeph 2:5-7), and παράλιος, G4163, (Luke 6:17). It has reference to the E seaboard of the Mediterranean Sea, inhabited in OT times first by the Canaanites (Deut 1:7), and subsequently by the Philistines (Ezek 25:16) and the Phoenicians (Luke 6:17). It was a fertile strip of land, not many m. wide, and with few harbors.
