Principality

PRINCIPALITY (ἀρχή, G794, rule, dominion, command). The word is used six times in the writings of Paul to signify the organization of supernatural and angelic powers. Modern trs. and commentaries (esp. EGT) may be profitably consulted in the relevant contexts (Rom 8:38; Eph 1:21 [KJV]; 3:10; 6:12; Col 1:16; 2:10 [KJV]). In Titus 3:1 (KJV) Paul used the word in reference to earthly magistrates, and “powers,” commonly associated with it in the almost synonymous sense of authorities. Jude 6 (ASV), albeit the context is spiritual, uses the word in its general sense of a constituted authority.
