PLATTER (παροψίς, G4243; πίναξ, G4402). A large, shallow dish, usually oval, used for serving food. The platter on which the head of John the Baptist was placed was prob. made of silver or gold (Matt 14:8, 11; Mark 6:25, 28, KJV CHARGER). In Matthew 23:25, 26 the RSV has replaced “platter” of KJV and ASV with “plate,” and with “dish” in Luke 11:39.
