PISTACHIO NUTS pĭs tä’ shĭ ō (בָּטְנִ֖ים). The fruit of the Pistacia vera, a tree widely grown in Pal. (Gen 43:11, KJV NUTS). Its seeds are edible and are a favorite food in Pal., where they are eaten raw or made into various confectionaries. Pistachio nuts were among the “choice” things Jacob had his sons take to Joseph in Egypt.
