PIN (יָתֵד, H3845). The pins used in the Tabernacle (Exod 27:19; 35:18; 38:10, 31; 39:40; Num 3:37; 4:32) were wooden or metal pegs (so RSV), and prob. were sharpened at one end and so shaped at the other end as to allow chords to be attached (Exod 38:18; 39:40; Num 3:37). Pins were used also in a loom to tighten the weave (Judg 16:13, 14), and as pegs for hanging (Ezek 15:3). In Isaiah 3:22 where the KJV has “crisping pins,” the ASV has “satchels” and the RSV has “handbags.” See Nail 3.
