KUSHAIAH kŏŏ shā’ yə (קֽוּשָׁיָֽהוּ). A Merarite Levite who sang in the Tabernacle in the reign of King David (1 Chron 15:17); also called Kishi (6:44).

L. A symbol used by scholars of the synoptic problem to designate the supposed source of much of the material peculiar to Luke. If the infancy narratives are included, it comprises about half of the gospel. It is supposed that it originated c. a.d. 60, prob. in Caesarea, in either oral or written form. Streeter, in his Proto-Luke theory, held that Luke wrote a gospel, consisting of Q and L, prior to the current, or canonical instead of current gospel, and that later on, when he became familiar with Mark’s gospel, he alternated blocks of Proto-Luke with Marcan material.
